The role of the pharmacist is ever evolving with increase responsibilities as such shifting some task to the pharmacy technician. As the pharmacist consults and advise patients about the medications they have been prescribed, as well as collaborate with patients’ medical doctors, their time is limited to attend to other matters. So, this is where the pharmacy technician steps in and assists the pharmacist with some of the other task such as filling out prescriptions, ordering medications and supplies, monitoring and managing inventory, assist in auditing, educate patients, collaborate with other members of the healthcare team etc. Since the role of the technician has also expanded over the years, it is imperative that the pharmacy technicians receive proper education and training as well, especially in regards to the advances in technology in delivery of healthcare.
